INT. NAZI HEADQUARTERS (1933) - ADOLF HITLER
stands at attention and salutes, Nazi style, as some Nazi STORM TROOPERS enter. After a beat we HEAR the BUZZING of a fly.
CLOSE SHOT - HITLER'S NOSE
as the time-traveling fly lands on it. Hitler notices, reacts, then slaps himself on the nose.
MED. SHOT - THE STORM TROOPERS
follow suit and slap themselves on the nose.
CLOSE SHOT - HITLER
looks at the dead fly on his hand which, after a beat, disappears.
INT. LABORATORY (1995) - THE SCIENTISTS
ponder the empty bell jar. Suddenly the fly reappears, and falls, dead, on the table.

Of course, we'll never know for sure if it reached its destination, or what effect it may have had on history, but the big test of our mission is yet to come. |

Too bad Doctor Julius couldn't have been here to share in this moment of triumph. |
They all look back at the pacing DOCTOR JULIUS.
CLOSE SHOT - DOCTOR JULIUS
paces like a madman, which he is.
JULIUS
(to himself)
|
There's no way -- if the logarithm is correct. Of course the cosine has to match the sine, read the sign, go back to the cosine and ask him for directions. R-r-r-r-r-r-ruffles have r-r-r-r-r-r-ridges. They have ridges I say! |
MED. SHOT - THE SCIENTISTS
shake their heads.

Excuse me, please, but I have my report ready. |

Then let's get right to it, Doctor Denton. |
They sit down at a table as Denton passes out manila folders.

| Have you whittled the candidates down to a manageable number? |
DENTON
(confident)
|
Better than that. I think we have the team. |
MELLINGER|
Really? That's what I like to hear. |
DENTON|
These are the dossiers of the five team members, plus the team captain, chosen from a list of over ten thousand prospective time travelers... |
BRICKHOUSE
(looking up, dreamily)|
I love it -- time travelers. Travelers through time. |
They all study the papers.
DENTON|
You'll notice that each possesses unique qualifications for the job: Strong, athletic, not too smart -- able to take commands and follow orders; successful, but not so successful that they would be missed if they disappeared for a few weeks -- or longer. |
They continue to look over the dossiers.
DENTON
(continuing)

Well, what do you think? Comments? |

Full speed ahead. To the past! |
He throws his dossier on the table.
CLOSE SHOT - THE DOSSIER
has photographs of six men. They are: JOHN MADDEN, the popular football broadcaster; DICK BUTKUS, the Hall of Fame linebacker, now TV pitchman; BUBBA SMITH, ex-NFL great and character actor; LARRY CSONKA, hard-charging ex-fullback, also doing TV commercials; BRIAN "THE BOZ" BOSWORTH, ex-NFL almost-great and oddball; WILLIAM "THE REFRIGERATOR" PERRY, current NFL great for the Philadelphia Eagles.
